It’s a cold morning, a plumber has to crawl through an impossibly tight hole to hang and insulate some copper pipe and try not to get attacked by the wild kingdom.
We’d say that’s a pretty dirty and thankless job wouldn’t you? And even if they don’t run into any skunks they still might smell something that doesn’t smell good.
Life is full of thankless and dirty jobs and being a plumber is one of them so we’re not surprised that both men and women proudly get plumber tattoos inked on their bodies.
Many times it’s the plumber’s wife who gets the tattoo to show her appreciation to her husband who’s job is to get water, waste and gas where it needs to go every single day of the week.
You’d be hard-pressed to not find one thing you do every day where it not directly or indirectly connected to something a plumber does.
They install and repair sinks, bathtubs, dishwashers, hot water tanks, septic tanks, sewage as well as burst water pipes. Not to mention that they have to lift heavy materials and crawl into tight spaces.
So when plumbers choose to the feel pain of getting their tattoos there is a good reason for it.
Whether they’ve been planning their tattoos for 5 seconds or 5 years, whether it’s tasteful or noble or beautiful, whether it tells the story of a lifetime or just one drunken night they took control, paid their money, stepped into that tattoo parlor and said I want this on me forever.
They made the choice.
People will look at you with that plumber’s wrench on your arm and expect you to be a certain way.
Show them something they didn’t expect.
Life is full of twists and turns and the many of the jobs we find ourselves in we didn’t seem to choose them, they just happen to us.
What will your choice be?
What story will you write on your arm, back, chest, wrist or shoulder?
Whatever plumber tattoo you decide on be sure to put some thought into it because the ink is easy to get put on but a pain to have removed.
